Reviving the Magic of City Pop!
Have you spotted the band rocking beige and burgundy tailor-made outfits? Well, they’re taking the spotlight as this week’s featured artist on Kolektive!
ALYSON invites us into the captivating world of 70s and 80s Japanese City Pop, where sun-soaked melodies and heartfelt lyrics evoke memories of summer, love, and vibrant city life.
This dynamic quintet is composed of Pio Ligot (vocals), Luis Uy (lead guitar), Marcus Mababangloob (drums), Miguel Erfe (bass), and Easel Manes (keyboard).

ALYSON achieved an impressive debut with their album DEFINITELY LOVE! In just over a year since its release, they have cultivated a loyal fanbase both locally and internationally.
“This album is what we consider to be one of the biggest creative and artistic expressions that we’ve been able to pull off. It’s a whole new direction for the band, so seeing people enjoy it as much as they do –– it’s really at the heart of why we do this,” says Marcus in an interview with Billboard Philippines.
“It’s because we can’t erase our own context. Even if we’re trying to do city pop, you can’t erase the fact that we grew up listening to the genres of indie, jazz, and such. We acknowledge that our music is never going to sound like the music that we look up to, and that’s actually the great part,” says Marcus.

Beyond their music, ALYSON’s iconic uniformed suits also capture the attention of their fans. Much like The Beatles, their beige and burgundy tailor-made outfits create a distinct visual identity for the group. In an interview with Billboard Philippines, Pio shared that the band understood the importance of having a visual identity alongside their music. He explained that opting for suits was the simplest idea at the time, inspired by acts from that era.
“It worked for the Beatles, and it worked for other acts during that era, so we wanted not just any suit that you get off the rack,” he noted.

ALYSON hopes that their music plays a role in key moments of people’s lives and musical discoveries. “Hopefully, it can help them appreciate the genre and music in general, leaving a lasting impression,” Marcus added.
ALYSON’s appeal transcends borders, uniting diverse cultures through their music and charm. By blending nostalgic influences with modern sounds, they’re not just reviving City Pop — they’re breathing new life into it for today’s audience, ensuring its timeless charm resonates with listeners everywhere.
